Blue Wren Beach House is located just a short stroll from the peaceful seaside village of Penneshaw, off of the coast of South Australia on Kangaroo Island. If you do not have a lot of luggage, it is a 5 -10 minute walk from the Sealink Ferry Terminal.
Penneshaw is the gateway to Kangaroo Island and has the normal conveniences you'll need for your stay plus an array of premium local Kangaroo Island produce. It is the perfect place to relax, fish, swim, play golf, wander and enjoy the local wildlife.
Blue Wren is ideally placed to enjoy Penneshaw’s family friendly facilities such as playground, skate park, tennis courts and crystal clear swimming beach.
It is the perfect base from which to venture out to explore Kangaroo Island’s world-renowned natural attractions and extensive native wildlife populations.
You will often see dolphins and seals swimming past and wallabies feeding on the green lawn from Blue Wren’s verandah. Between May and October Southern Wright Whales migrate past our shore on their way to the warmer waters of the tropical north.
Whether walking on the beach after dark or simply meandering along beach road, you will be in a prime spotting position to observe squawking fairy penguins returning to their nests after a long day’s fishing at sea.
Kangaroo Island Sealink operates a daily ferry service from Cape Jervis on the mainland, to Penneshaw. The drive from Adelaide, South Australia's capital city, to Cape Jervis takes approximately 1.5 hours through the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis and the ferry terminal.
The passenger ferry accommodates both vehicles and passengers for the 45 minute crossing from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw.
The Kangaroo Island Information Centre is situated on Howard Drive, the only road leading out of Penneshaw, directly opposite the Christmas Cove boat haven. Centrally located, Blue Wren Beach House is a great jumping off point for day trips to all of the Kangaroo Island attractions on offer including Admiral’s Arch, the Remarkable Rocks, Seal Bay, the Little Sahara or our locally famed honey farm. There is plenty to do for the active or adventurous.
